Building Big
"A new superlative ropeway is being built on Germany's highest peak. It holds three world records: the highest steel construction support. The longest free span and the greatest difference in height in one section. Millimetre work at an altitude of 3000 metres! The new ropeway will cover an altitude difference of 1945 metres. That is unique in the world. Extreme winds, very little space and the abyss lurking all around - the construction is a very delicate job. The weather on the Zugspitze can change abruptly. The construction has to be completed as quickly as possible. A special helicopter flies the individual parts up the mountain. The conditions on the Zugspitze only allow for helicopter assembly. A masterpiece of engineering and a feat of strength by its builders. Nerves of steel are needed here and above all: a head for heights."
